F Stephens & Son Pty Ltd was established in 1872 by Frederick Stephens with the business trading as Chaff and Grain Merchants located at Churchill Road, Ovingham.
In the late 1950's a hardware and fodder store was added and in the early 60's a new fodder store was built.
1970 saw the business became incorporated and named F Stephens & Son Pty Ltd. In 1971 the business relocated to its current location at Waterloo Corner when the business purchased Greenlea Pastoral Company, an operating chaff mill.
The family owned business now operating for over 150 years, has been handed down through the generations from father to son with Brett Stephens, the current director, being a 5th generation F Stephens & Son Pty Ltd owner.
Seeing a need to expand its operations from fodder and grain, F Stephens & Son Pty Ltd diversified over the years adding products and services and is currently a Can & Bottle Recycling Depot, retailing ELGAS gas bottle refilling facility, suppliers to the public of shellgrit, cow/chicken manure, road base, other landscape supplies, firewood, kindling and charcoal. Also adding to the operations which is now a major part of the business is the transport division, comprising of 2 truck and quad trailers, carrying out local and interstate bulk haulage, regular tipper work including working for local councils and civil companies around Adelaide and within South Australia.
